And May Your Dreams Be Realized

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and I was feeling the need for his vision today in my classroom.

I dedicate this song to every student out there who cannot laugh with her peers because she is the victim of their isolating laughter every day. I dedicate this song to the teenage boy who holds back tears because of the things other stude...nts say under their breath about him. With my whole heart, I also dedicate this song to the ones who laugh and to the ones who whisper - that someone or something might open their eyes to a new compassion that has been shut off in their lives for whatever reason. Maybe, hopefully, the tune is also a little bit of hope for teachers and mentors who work to maintain safe spaces for students.
